A concrete floor that is dusty, crumbling, or uneven is not just an aesthetic problem. It is a signal that the top layer of concrete has lost its strength and therefore needs proper repair.
In this article, we will consider repair mixtures for horizontal repair and restoration of concrete surfaces Teknoself and Teknoself 500 .
Why does concrete crack and crumble?
Main reasons:
-
weak or improperly mixed concrete
-
lack or improper care of the screed
-
constant high mechanical loads (garages, warehouses)
-
humidity and temperature changes
-
wear of the top layer
As a result, the surface becomes brittle, dust, cracks, and peeling appear.
What is the correct way to repair and level a concrete floor?
For such tasks, self-leveling repair mixtures or thin-layer repair compounds are used. The choice depends on the condition of the substrate and the task:
-
if you need to perfectly level the floor, we use Teknoself self-leveling mixtures
-
If you need to repair defects locally, the best solution would be Teknorep repair warehouses .

Self-leveling repair compound Teknoself or Teknoself 500 - what's the difference?
Teknoself (basic repair mixture)
-
compressive strength: 25 MPa
-
used for leveling horizontal concrete surfaces
-
suitable for medium loads
-
economical solution
-
works well on a stable basis
This is an ideal choice if:
-
the floor is not badly damaged
-
you need to level the base for the coating
Teknoself 500 (reinforced repair compound)
-
compressive strength: 35 MPa
-
self-leveling
-
rapid strength gain
-
reinforced with polymer additives
-
does not crack even when applied very thinly
Advantages:
-
pedestrian load after 5–6 hours
-
full hardening — ≈18 hours
-
high wear resistance
-
perfectly flat surface
Ideal if:
-
the floor is very dusty or crumbling
-
there is a load (garage, warehouse, workshop)
-
you need to quickly put the facility into operation

Proper surface preparation before concrete repair
Even the best repair mixture will not save if:
-
the dust has not been removed
-
a weak foundation remained
-
there is grease or dirt
Proper surface preparation before applying the Teknoself or Teknoself 500 self-leveling compound consists of the following steps:
-
Remove weak concrete
-
Clean the surface
-
Dust off
-
Prime (if necessary)
-
Only after this apply the repair mixture.
How to properly prepare the Teknoself working solution
To obtain maximum strength and adhesion of the repair mixture to the concrete surface, the working solution must be prepared in accordance with the technology.
It is recommended to mix using a low-speed electric mixer (up to 400 rpm) to avoid excessive air saturation. First, 6–6.5 liters of water are poured into a clean container, after which the dry mixture is gradually added.
Continue mixing until a homogeneous, lump-free, plastic mass is obtained. It is important to note that the amount of water may vary slightly depending on the ambient temperature.
The finished solution must be used within 30 minutes, evenly distributing it over the prepared surface.
If the concrete floor simply has irregularities and is being prepared for a finishing coating, basic leveling with Teknoself repair compound is sufficient .
But if the concrete is dusty, crumbling and subject to loads, it is better to use Teknoself 500 .
Concrete repair is not about "cheap and fast," but about the right material system and technology that works for years.
