Restoration of the concrete bowl of the VDNH swimming pool: stages of work and materials used

Restoration of concrete structures that are constantly in contact with water, precipitation, and ultraviolet radiation requires a comprehensive approach and properly selected building materials. This is exactly the approach that was used during the repair of the concrete bowl of the fountain basin on the territory of VDNH.

Over time, the concrete pool bowl suffered characteristic damage, with structural cracks, irregularities, and surface defects appearing.

The main tasks of the repair were:

  • elimination of cracks in concrete.

  • leveling the surface of the bowl.

  • creating durable, elastic and seamless waterproofing.

  • reliable protection against water and ultraviolet radiation.

Stage 1. Repair and restoration of the concrete surface

TEKNOREP 200, a thin-layer repair mixture reinforced with fiberglass, was used to repair the concrete bowl.

This material allows:

  • effectively close structural cracks;

  • eliminate defects with a thickness of 3 to 30 mm;

  • level the concrete surface;

  • increase the strength of restored areas through fiber reinforcement.

  • used for repairing concrete products and structures in all types of engineering structures;

  • for repairing prefabricated reinforced concrete elements;

  • for repairing concrete surfaces after removing formwork;
  • for repairing damage and cracks on any mineral surfaces

Advantages of the thin-layer repair mixture Teknorep 200:

  • easy to apply;
  • does not cause corrosion;
  • reinforced with microfibers;
  • resistant to freezing and thawing;
  • has high adhesive strength;
  • suitable for vertical and horizontal applications;
  • has high compressive strength;

TEKNOREP 200 repair mixture is applied in a thin layer to the prepared base, cleaned of weak concrete particles.

How to properly mix TEKNOREP 200 concrete repair mixture:

A bag of Teknorep 200 repair mixture (25 kg) will require 4-5 liters of clean water. The dry component of Teknorep 200 is gradually added to the container with water. Mixing is carried out using a low-speed mixer until a homogeneous working mixture is obtained. The mixing time should be at least 5 minutes. The resulting solution should be kept for 3 minutes and mixed again for 2 minutes.

Important!  Do not add more water to the finished working solution.

The prepared working solution Teknorep 200 is applied to the surface with a spatula in a thickness of 3-30 mm in one layer. If it is necessary to apply a layer more than 30 mm thick, the work should be done in several layers. After 24 hours, you can proceed to the next stage - applying waterproofing.

Stage 2. Waterproofing the concrete bowl

After the repair work was completed, the concrete pool bowl was waterproofed using TEKNOMER 200 EX W polymer-cement waterproofing.

TEKNOMER 200 EX W is a two-component elastic waterproofing material that:

  • forms a seamless waterproofing coating;

  • has high elasticity, which is especially important for concrete structures;

  • provides reliable protection against ultraviolet radiation;

  • suitable for indoor and outdoor use, including swimming pools and fountains.

Due to its properties, the material creates a durable protective layer that is resistant to positive water pressure - 7 BAR.

TEKNOMER 200 EX W polymer-cement waterproofing is a versatile material suitable for residential premises, shopping centers and municipal facilities.

It is effectively used for waterproofing foundations and retaining walls, in baths, saunas, swimming pools and water tanks, as well as on open terraces, balconies and roofs.

The waterproofing composition is suitable for application to horizontal and vertical surfaces, both inside and outside buildings.

Among the key advantages of TEKNOMER 200 EX W are its resistance to ultraviolet radiation and the absence of shrinkage and cracks after drying.

The material can be applied to fresh screed and concrete, it prevents carbonation of concrete, is non-toxic and safe for use in premises and tanks with drinking water, and is also resistant to contact with sea salt water.

The use of TEKNOREP 200 concrete repair compound, reinforced with fiber, in combination with TEKNOMER 200 EX W waterproofing material made it possible to perform a full-fledged professional repair of the concrete pool bowl in compliance with modern technologies and regulatory requirements.

Such a comprehensive approach not only restores the appearance of the fountain bowl, but also significantly increases its operational reliability, durability, and compliance with current standards for hydraulic and concrete structures.

As a result of the work performed, the concrete pool bowl was comprehensively restored and repaired: cracks, defects and surface irregularities were eliminated, the integrity of the concrete base was restored and it was prepared for further operation. The structure received reliable protection against leaks, which prevents water loss, moisture penetration into the concrete body and further destruction of the structure under the influence of constant moisture. Additionally, the pool bowl received an elastic, seamless and durable waterproofing coating that is able to compensate for micromovements of the base, does not form cracks and retains its properties under the influence of ultraviolet radiation and temperature changes.
