Heat-set geotextile is a non-woven material composed of polyester threads. This practical material reduces construction costs and extends the service life of structures. Geotextiles have become indispensable in agriculture and horticulture, and are essential in the construction of roads and railways, tunnels, hydraulic structures, sidewalks, drainage systems, and underground utility lines. This non-woven material is made by passing a mass of very fine threads through a series of harpoon-like needles that pierce the mass of threads, entangling them.
If the primary purpose is road construction, where strength is a key factor, heat-set geotextiles are the choice.
Manufacturing technology:
Granulated polypropylene is extruded into fibers, which are then processed first on a carding machine and then on a needle-punching machine. Many types of products undergo heat treatment with infrared radiation, hot air, or calendering.
Main functions:
- Separation
- Filtration
- Drainage
- Protection
- Reinforcement
- Tensile equalization
Construction applications:
- Road construction – separates various layers of road structures, reinforces and increases the load-bearing capacity of road bases;
- Civil engineering – used as a separating layer for various materials and also provides reliable protection for membranes from mechanical damage;
- Filtration and drainage systems – prevents fine-grained material from penetrating the drainage layer, protects drainage pipes from silting, and strengthens the soil;
- Hydraulic structures – provides reliable protection for waterproof membranes from ruptures, preventing erosion of river and lake banks.
