Concrete is one of the strongest materials in construction. But without additional protection, even it can be destroyed by mechanical stress, moisture, frost, and chemicals. In order for the concrete surface to retain its strength, not to produce dust, and to have an attractive appearance, you need to choose the right coating for concrete.

Why cover concrete?

Concrete has a porous structure and without a coating it:

  • absorbs moisture;

  • cracks during freeze-thaw cycles;

  • dusts and loses its strength;

  • darkens or becomes stained.

Therefore, for any concrete surface - floor, foundation, basement, walkways, etc. - a protective coating is a mandatory step before putting the concrete surface into operation.

1. Concrete paints

Concrete paint not only gives the surface an attractive appearance, but also creates a protective layer. Which concrete paint to choose? The main types of paints:

Epoxy paints

  • Extremely strong and chemically resistant.

  • Ideal for industrial floors, parking lots, warehouses, garages.

Example:

TEKNOBOND 600 is a two-component epoxy paint for application to concrete, metal, wooden and plastered surfaces, resistant to aggressive environments and chemicals. Suitable for outdoor and indoor use on walls and floors.

Teknosel tip: before applying epoxy and polyurethane coatings, we recommend using the solvent-free low-viscosity primer TEKNOBOND 300. This will further strengthen the surface and improve the adhesion (grip strength) of the surface with the paint.

And if the room does not have waterproofing, there is moisture and condensation, you should pay attention to the water-based epoxy paint TEKNOBOND 620 .

TEKNOBOND 620 is a modern two-component epoxy paint, designed to provide maximum strength and durability of the coating. It is perfectly suitable for application to concrete, metal, ceramic, wooden and plastered surfaces, providing perfect adhesion and uniform coverage. The material is specially designed for operation under conditions of increased load, so it is often used in industrial premises, parking lots, warehouses, workshops, garages and even in residential buildings, where not only reliability is important, but also the aesthetic appearance of the surface.

TEKNOBOND 620 is characterized by high resistance to aggressive environments, fuels, oils, salts, alkalis and acids, which makes it indispensable for areas with constant contact with chemicals.

Due to its waterproofness, the paint effectively protects concrete and other materials from moisture penetration, and its frost resistance allows it to be used both indoors and outdoors.

In addition, the coating is vapor-permeable - this means that condensation does not form under it, and the structure "breathes", maintaining a stable structure without swelling and delamination even during temperature changes.

To achieve the best result, it is recommended to apply TEKNOBOND 620 paint together with the special vapor-permeable primer TEKNOBOND 120. This primer performs an important function - it creates an intermediate layer that ensures perfect adhesion of the finishing coating to the base and prevents the accumulation of moisture under the paint. In combination, these two materials form an extremely strong, wear-resistant and durable concrete surface protection system that can withstand not only mechanical loads, but also the long-term effects of aggressive environmental factors.

Polyurethane paints

  • Elastic, not afraid of vibrations, temperature changes and sunlight.

  • Suitable for outdoor work and wet rooms.

Example:

TEKNOBOND 650 P is a two-component polyurethane paint, resistant to UV radiation. It provides reliable protection of almost all types of surfaces from the effects of atmospheric phenomena, preserving color and shine for a long time. It forms a durable and abrasion-resistant coating with reliable protection against moisture and chemical agents from outside and inside the premises.

Areas of use:

      ● For metal surfaces: iron, steel, electroplating, brass, aluminum and others.

      ● For mineral surfaces: concrete, plaster, wood, stone and others.

      ● For epoxy and polyurethane surfaces.

Teknosel tip: to strengthen the surface and reduce paint absorption, use TEKNOBOND 300 primer (in two layers).

Road marking paints

  • Easy to apply, quick-drying, wear-resistant and resistant to ultraviolet radiation.

  • Option for decorative coating and road marking.

Example:

TEKNOBOND 960 is a “cold” road paint for asphalt and concrete based on synthetic resin and solvent. It is used for marking highways, motorways, public roads, and residential areas (sidewalks, curbs, paving stones). It is used on asphalt and concrete in all types of engineering structures. The color of the paint does not change regardless of the surface of application.

2. Impregnation and hardeners for concrete

If the concrete surface is dusty, starting to crumble, or there is no need to paint it, you can simply strengthen and dust-free the concrete using special impregnations.

Example: TEKNOSER SODYUM — liquid strengthening impregnation based on sodium silicate, penetrates deep into the pores of concrete, strengthens it and increases its density. The material increases the wear resistance of the surface, eliminates the formation of dust, prevents cracking and destruction of the surface at low temperatures. It does not contain solvents, is vapor-permeable and does not require a finish coating or painting.

3. Decorative coatings

For those who value aesthetics, concrete can be coated with a clear acrylic varnish for a “wet look” with a high gloss finish. This solution combines durability and style.

Example:

TEKNOCILA 300 is a one-component, highly effective, impact-resistant acrylic varnish for concrete based on an organic solvent, used to seal, preserve and strengthen concrete surfaces.

Advice from Teknosel: if you prefer environmentally friendly building materials, pay attention to the water-based acrylic varnish TEKNOCILA 450 .

TEKNOCILA 450 is a semi-gloss material based on a special modified acrylic resin, designed to strengthen, polish and protect concrete surfaces. It makes concrete waterproof, increases its strength and durability, and provides a neat and aesthetic appearance of the coating.

For concrete to last a long time, it needs to be protected from moisture, chemicals, and abrasion. The choice of coating depends on the operating conditions - indoors, outdoors, in a humid environment, or if the surface is subjected to constant loads.

The right coating for concrete is a guarantee that the concrete surface will remain strong, clean and beautiful for many years.
